10 ingredients for change management
Change management is one of the eternal questions. This topic is often raised, but seldom well developed. Yann Gourvennec, Director, Marketing Visionary, who has 20 years of experience in marketing, innovation and business development, has compiled a list of ten ingredients, most, in his opinion, important and urgent if you want to introduce a new company.
The list is based on his own experience of change management in companies in different parts of the world.
- Prayer for peace of mind: always know what can change and what is not, with the conviction that they are able to distinguish the first from the second.
- Think big, start small: it is clear that the changes implemented because I understand why this is necessary. But try to be rational and start small, step by step moving towards big changes.
- Select the path of least resistance: avoid people who resist change and try not to spend time on their belief.
- On the contrary, focus on the people committed to your initiatives (such people are called “agents of change”).
- Ask the boss to set an example: when you want to change the order of things, the leadership has to show direction and prove that it cannot only call and order, but to do something. Don’t think just because a head has sent all messages, changes began themselves. They will not start.
- Ask to give you powers only when already seen some results. Or, if you have the powers you already have, do not show them until something will not succeed. This will show people that you care about their opinion.
- Respect people: the human factor – one of the most important in change management. Don’t underestimate employees and try their humanly convincing.
- Strive for the best, prepare for the worst: as with any project management, there are Murphy’s laws. To prepare for the worst to avoid it.
- Act quickly: the best period to complete the implementation of the new from three to six months. If nothing has changed, then it is very likely that will not change.
- In times of difficulties don’t stop and, at the same time, do not rush the process of change. Times of chaos by most people perceived as a dangerous period, but for many managers change management – this is the time when everything is possible. Most commonly, changes are realized and accepted it is in hard times.
The application of these simple rules do not guarantee success, but ignoring them will certainly mean failure.
